At Tak Takut Kids Club (TTKC), we believe every child's voice matters.
This is Me! is an annual zine publication that shines a spotlight on the individuality, creativity, and perspectives of the children in our community. Through art, storytelling, and collaborative projects, we create a space where children can express themselves freely and be celebrated for who they are.
Our Approach
At TTKC we don't teach art. Art engagement is how we learn to express and connect. Over the years, we’ve co-created many art pieces with children, never focusing on “good” or “bad” art.
Children freely create with the materials around them—pen and paper, beads, cardboard, clips and lots and lots of tape. Creations are preserved in a time capsule, capturing moments of pure imagination and wonder. Yearly, we revisit these works to uncover recurring themes that reflect their unique experiences and perspectives. This is how This is Me! emerged.
2024
This is Me! #4
Volume 4 of This is Me! takes creativity to new heights, showcasing how children express themselves through a diverse range of activities beyond traditional visual arts.
From cooking and hairdressing to performance and storytelling, this edition highlights the multifaceted talents of our young creators.
2023
This Is What We Eat At Home
Children became storytellers and documentarians of their family's culinary heritage.
Through photography and storytelling, they captured their favourite home-cooked dishes, revealing the rich tapestry of cultural traditions and caregiving arrangements. These stories have been featured at various exhibitions including Esplanade’s March On Festival, the Heritage Festival and Children's Season at the National Museum of Singapore.
2022
This is Me! #2
The second edition continues the time capsule approach to preserving children’s artwork. Five children stood out as avid creators, producing hundreds of drawings over the year.
Through intimate interviews and carefully curated portfolios, we gained deeper insights into their artistic processes, inspirations, and the stories behind their work.
2021
This is Me! #1
What if I’m not me? What if they don’t like me? What if I die? What if I can be me?
In our inaugural issue, This is Me! #1 showcases anonymous artwork from a diverse group of children, each exploring their own “what if?” questions. Through their creations, we see expressions of curiosity, vulnerability, and imagination.
This edition captures the essence of childhood wonder and the questions that shape their understanding of themselves and the world around them.
